A SHA-256 fingerprint of the exact video file. It's the long string of letters and numbers in every YouTube description and Discord caption. Change one frame of the video and the fingerprint changes. 2. An OpenTimestamps proof. Right after the video is finished, its fingerprint is submitted to OpenTimestamps, a free public service that writes fingerprints into the Bitcoin blockchain. A Bitcoin block can't be edited or back-dated by anyone — not by us, not by Bitcoin's developers. That block's time is the latest possible moment the file could have been created. 3. The platform dates. The YouTube publish date and the Discord post time are extra witnesses. They're convenient, but they depend on those companies. The Bitcoin proof doesn't. Check a video yourself Step 1 — Get the file. Download the video from YouTube (any downloader, e.g. yt-dlp) or take the original MP4 from Discord, where members get the same file. Step 2 — Fingerprint it. Mac or Linux, in Terminal: shasum -a 256 "the-file.mp4". Windows, in Command Prompt: certutil -hashfile "the-file.mp4" SHA256. The result must match the SHA-256 in the description. If it doesn't, you have a re-encoded or edited copy — use the original. Step 3 — Check the Bitcoin timestamp. Open opentimestamps.org, drop in the video's .ots proof file (from the monthly package below), then the video itself when asked. The site reports the Bitcoin block that contains the fingerprint and the date and time of that block. Prefer the command line? pip install opentimestamps-client, then ots verify "the-file.mp4.ots". Step 4 — Compare. The Bitcoin block time is when the finished video already existed. Compare it with the dates called in the video. That is the proof: the calls were on record before the days they describe.
